Volvo's driverless road train in Spain is public mainly on the plain

It's been awhile since we saw Volvo's SARTRE (Safe Road Trains for the Environment) project, which was last running out of harm's way on a test track near Gothenburg. Volvo has just taken a big step forward in fostering confidence by conducting its road train on public asphalt. The 124-mile Spanish test both proved that the cars could stay driverless without posing a threat and upped the ante for what the cars could do: the lead truck, an S60, a V60 and an XC60 all moved along at a brisk 53MPH with a tighter gap between vehicles than there was in the original test, at just 20 feet.

Nokia announces Batman-themed Lumia 900

You may remember the limited edition The Dark Knight Rises Lumia 800 that Nokia announced late last year. Nokia will now be making a similar version of the new Lumia 900 as well. Just like the Lumia 800, the 900 will be available in Black and have the Batman logo on the back. The logo is not just printed on the phone but engraved on it, so you can feel the depression. Other than that the phone will also have some other content on the phone such exclusive wallpapers.

The phone is expected to go on sale in a few weeks in UK, France, Germany and a few other European countries.

Headed up by Professor Daniela Rus, the Smart Sand project looks nothing like it sounds and that's because the tech in question is currently more cube than grain. Measuring 12mm per side, these intelligent pebbles work in unison to recreate an object by first surrounding it and then building a shared 3D map that's used as a blueprint for duplication.

We all do know that consumer electronics and water do not mix, especially mobile gadgets such as tablets, portable media players, digital cameras, and smartphones. LG introduces 5 inch 1080p display

“Is that a TV in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?” That's the line some of you might be hearing if LG's newly-revealed display technology ends up in phones. They've introduced a 5 inch AH-IPS display that can push out a 1080p image. 1080p is the standard “full HD” resolution that you'll find on televisions, laptops, tablets, monitors, and more. Most people think the 5-5.5 inches range is the border for the difference between a phone and a tablet, especially after the advent of the Samsung Galaxy Note.

A befuddled Joker once pondered "Where does he get all those wonderful toys?" Soon you'll have a chance to inspire the same sort of wonderment amongst your friends - at least the more eagle-eyed ones. Nokia has announced it's launching a Batman-themed Nokia Lumia 900, with the minimalist logo of (spoiler alert) Bruce Wayne's alter-ego laser-etched onto the back. It's the same treatment that was given to a special edition Lumia 800 earlier and, no surprise, it'll be available exclusively in Batman's favorite color. It's also exclusive to Europe, at least initially, where it's said to be going on sale in a few weeks.

Facebook looks to Apple as it builds the ‘Facebook phone'

. Facebook has reportedly hired more than half a dozen former Apple engineers as part of renewed efforts to build an own-brand smartphone. According to a recent report from The New York Times, the hires are comprised of former hardware and software engineers who worked on the iPhone, and one engineer who worked on the iPad.
