Chinese carmaker blatantly copies Ford F-150

The Ford F-150 has just picked up a doppelganger in China. According to CarNewsChina, Jianghuai Auto Corporation has just unveiled its new 4R3 pickup, and sure enough, the vehicle looks to be a near carbon copy of America's best-selling truck. JAC reportedly wants to provide buyers in China, Africa and South America with a larger, inexpensive work vehicle. While the appearances of the Ford F-Series and 4R3 visuals differ ever so slightly, the similarities far outweigh the incongruities.

Dealers trying to push Saab NA into bankruptcy

Saab North America acknowledged that the chances were exceptionally slim, but it hoped to avoid bankruptcy long enough to give another company a chance to buy it. Shortly after Saab NA appointed a third-party administrator, McTevia & Associates, it was decided there was no way to save the company short of liquidation, and on January 23, the administrator announced plans to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. But Saab NA was beat to the filing by a group of 162 out of the 188 Saab dealers, who filed for involuntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware.

Boxx Electric Scooter – Looks as Comfortable as…a Box

Another entry in the electric scooter market is the Boxx scooter.  In its “upgrade” model , the scooter charges in 1 hour via a standard domestic plug and gives you up to 80 miles (129kms) travel.  Weighing 120 lbs (55 kg) with all aluminium construction the unit comes standard with ABS, traction control, drive by wire, oversized all LED dot lighting system, and two useful cargo holds. Options include a heated seat and extra battery pack to double your distance.
Though they claim “superior comfort ergonomics”, it certainly doesn't look that comfortable to me.

Bold or old? Who is the real Team BlackBerry? [HUMOR]

RIM recently took to Twitter to conduct an informal poll of BlackBerry users. On New Year’s Eve the smartphone maker asked #TeamBlackBerry how they planned to #BeBold in the new year. The result not only made for a rather useless infographic but also resulted in the creation of a team of masked avengers. GoGo Girl, Max Stone, Justin Steele, and Trudy Foreal were created to characterize certain BlackBerry users, but our friends over at WinSource had a different view.
I know, I know. It’s especially cruel to kick RIM while they are down, but we can’t help but get a laugh out of it all.

Samsung to announce something “revolutionary” this Sunday

Catching the Super Bowl on TV this Sunday. If you are, you might catch a glimpse of what Samsung has to offer. According to a tweet from the official Samsung account, they will be launching “a device so revolutionary only an ad in America's biggest game can do it justice.” Other than that we've got no clues about what Samsung is talking about but judging by the language used, it could very well be the Galaxy Note - after all it is “revolutionary” (phone-tablet hybrid) and “biggest” could refer to the screen size.

Intel quietly gives its Sandy a midlife refreshment, outs seven new Sandy Bridge CPUs

Intel opened its back door and shuttled out a refresh of its chips without so much as a phone call, typical. Three desktop Core i5 chips made their way into the big bad world, the i5-2550K replacing the i5-2500K, the i5-2450P replacing the i5-2400 and the i5-2380P replacing the i5-2320. There's a suspicion that the P that follows the two latter models means the GPUs have been disabled / removed to differentiate the price. The four Celerons, two low-voltage, two ultra-low voltage similarly replace older models, from the $70 B720 (replacing the B710) through to the $134 Celeron 867, supplanting the 857.

Nanotech-enhanced ‘smart paint' promises to detect structural damage

We've seen scientists explore a number of ways to make paint “smarter” over the years, and now a team of researchers at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow have devised a method that they say could do nothing short of “revolutionize structural safety.” The key to that is some novel nanotechnology that effectively turns the paint into a sensor network that's able to detect minor structural faults before they become a severe problem.

Icarus revisited

Icarus revisited

Humans must have looked up at the birds of yore, and wished that they, too, could one day traverse the skies. Fast forward to the 21st century and you have all sorts of machinations and contraptions that can ferry a large number of humans from one place to another, although it will not be how Icarus envisioned – that is, by attaching one's body to a pair of wings, flapping one's way around the skies.

Three patents pertaining to memory chip design that were used to successfully sue HP and Nvidia - dubbed the Barth Patents - are among Rambus' most valuable IP. Excuse me, they were among Rambus' most valuable until the US patent office invalidated them. Externally, it looks like a classic compact camera that is about the size of a deck of cards. A slew of other post-update problems have been reported in the Android market, as well, but are not as widely spread if those are anything to go by. There’s always room for improvement in software application development so hopefully these things are addressed in the near future.

The Android modding community is a great one all made possible by the tireless efforts of developers who seek to further enrich the Android experience by rooting and modding the software on their smartphones. Without that law, users who jailbreak or root their devices could face criminal charges — sounds like a crazy, post-apocalyptic future, right.
