Google image search results crammed into picture dictionary

Though not quite a replacement for Mountain View's ill-fated dictionary, this 1,240 page tome contains the first Google image search result for each word in a run-of-the-mill dictionary. With a PHP script, London-based artists Felix Heyes and Ben West scraped the image from each search and compiled an alphabetically ordered PDF brimming with 21,000 images - safesearch-disabled warts and all. "It's really an unfiltered, uncritical record of the state of human culture in 2012," West told Creative Applications Network.

Wall Switch Click Watch

Wall Switch Click Watch

Looking at wristwatches today, you no longer see a device that is just designed to tell time. Well, it still is the main function being offered, but most wristwatches being introduced nowadays certainly do not lack in uniqueness in terms of design. It is usually the outrageous ones that get that attention most of the time. The new Wall Switch Click Watch certainly belongs to this category.
The Wall Switch Click Watch is unique in that it is designed to look like an over-sized rocker switch that is usually associated with those light switches at home. But this time, the Wall Switch Watch gives it a different twist.

Google just can't wait until ICANN reveals custom domain name bids in mid-June to say what it's trying to buy - and it's clear that Mountain View went on a shopping spree. Some of the top-level domains in the land grab are ones you'd expect safeguarding Google's prized possessions, such as .google, .youtube and .docs. Others make us fear for the future of Internet memes. Google claims that it's bidding for TLDs such as .lol to explore their "we have a hunch it's just taking the addition of LOL to the dictionary a little too seriously. The company does assuage our fears with a promise to prevent TLD abuse.

VW considering new midsize utility for NA; Polo and Up! still on table

We've already heard word that Volkswagen may be considering a new Alltrack version of its Jetta for the North American Market, but TheDetroitBureau.com reports the automaker is also looking at other high-riding options. Jonathan Browning, Volkswagen Group of America CEO, says a new mid-sized SUV may show up in the lineup alongside the next-generation Tiguan (which itself is likely to get a trio of variants). The unnamed model would fit above the Touareg in size and price and would likely be co-developed engineers in the U.S. and those in another part of the world.

NTT Docomo showcases transparent OLED screen that has touch sensors on both sides

Your weekly dose of tech that could be pervasive in the future, or it could forever be an interesting concept comes from Japan. You might quickly want to add ‘Where else?' to that, yet the truth is that the land far away has in the past few years ceded some of its cool credentials to South Korea, Taiwan, and China. Leave it to NTT Docomo, one of the mobile companies with the highest R&D budgets in the world, to impress us (in association with Fujitsu this time).

UK: Nokia Lumia 710 is the first Windows Phone to go below £100. Limited time offer ends on June 7

Just a few hours ago we told you about a great deal that allowed you to get a Windows Phone for just £139.99 in the UK. In that case, it was the Acer Allegro. And up until that point, it was the cheapest we'd ever seen a Windows Phone in the UK. However, that's no longer so. The Nokia Lumia 710 is now even cheaper than the Allegro. One (tiny) caveat, though: the following pricing applies on Pay as you go only.

Not satisfied with the launch of its newest creation, the Galaxy S III, Sammy's taken the wraps off of yet another member of the famed galactic family: welcome the Galaxy R Style. While Samsung isn't coming out and saying it, the device is essentially a follow-up to last year's 4.2-inch Galaxy R - and although the handset keeps a similar form factor, it's changed quite a bit on the inside. For example, the 4.3-inch (960 x 540), 9.79mm thin R Style now houses an LTE chip, 16GB of onboard storage and a TouchWiz flavor of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Today, however, there is the Sony Xperia neo L that is said to go global instead of just remaining as an exclusive handset specially meant for the China market only. The EVO 4G LTE does look like its HTC One X cousin for the outside, even if it does not use the same type of industrial design. On the inside, the HTC EVO 4G LTE is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 equipped with a very fast graphics processor. Explay Crystal revives transparent display phones with dash of color, low price

If you've been lamenting the passing of transparent display phones like the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness as those vile, opaque smartphones took over, you'll be happy to know that Russia's Explay has taken up the mantle with the Crystal. The basic song remains the same, a numberpad-driven dumbphone with a display that will help you avoid the lamp post up ahead, but it's remixed through colors that render the experience a lot less monotone. We saw this in the Lenovo S800, but the dual SIM card slots and Bluetooth 3.0 at least see the Crystal keep pace with more recent phones in its category.

Harry Potter for Kinect — Lets You Kill “You-Know-Who” with Motions

I don't play video games as much as you do. I play Angry Birds on my iPhone and Facebook in my leisure times, but that's all. You know, I have tried to play games more seriously in the last three months. I built my custom PC with high-end component such as Intel Core i7 processor, a 16GB RAM, NVIDA GT440 graphic display card, and a 21-inch LED display. And you know what, my computer crashes whenever I run high resource games such as Need for Speed and Dolphin emulator to play Super Mario Galaxy.

Back to Alvin and his merry Chipmunks – strange to see how they have made a relatively successful re-entry into today's culture, where their three movies actually grossed over a billion dollars in the process.

The whole package is wrapped up in a neat and tidy Google+ page. This has been corroborated with recent leaks that have shown the backplates (here and here) of the purported device. Based on the photos, Apple's iPhone 5 is expected to feature a larger display, possibly measuring 3.95" and will also be thinner and sport a smaller dock connector. Aston Martin unveils AM 310 concept at Villa d'Este

Design language is a tricky thing. Err too much on one side and nobody will recognize your cars. Fall on the other and all your cars will look the same. Aston Martin, you might say, emerges more on the latter side than the former. Which isn't to say that we don't like how their high-end GTs look, mind you. But if any company is in need of a design shakeup, you could argue that it's Aston.

That's at least a little bit of what the British automaker shot for this weekend at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, the glamorous open-air auto show on the shores of Italy's Lake Como.

Electronic crash-avoidance systems get thumbs up from consumers in federal testing

Starting last fall, eight carmakers worked with the Department of Transportation on a study assessing drivers' acceptance of accident-avoidance technologies. The initial six-month program in the Connected Vehicle Safety Pilot Program put people on closed roads in cars that communicated wirelessly to issue warnings about lane changes, blind spots, forward collisions and other cars approaching intersections. Of the 688 participants, more than 90 percent wanted the tech in their cars, and that response rate covered just about all age ranges.

Kaspersky: Apple not serious enough about iOS security

With its closed ecosystem, you would think Apple takes protecting the iPad, iPhone and iPod from malware seriously. Well, IT take note: Endpoint security for iOS is, apparently, not an important enough part of Apple's agenda for its juggernaut of a mobile device platform - at least according to Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of the well-known security company that bears his name. Speaking with The Register, Kaspersky spoke of how he's a "little bit disappointed" the Apple SDK does not allow anti-virus vendors like his company provide the type of software necessary to fully protect iOS products from malware.
