Video of protein movement within a neuron shows how our brains renew themselves
If, like us, you spend most of your time wondering exactly what's going on in other people's heads, then this video is for you. Okay, so it might not reveal the reason why that jerk cut you off at the junction, or why that co-worder didn't show up to your date exactly, rather, it's a little more literal than that. This is video footage of proteins moving within a single neuron. The USC researchers were able to capture this video by using bioluminescent proteins from a jellyfish to visually track their movement. Not only is this mind-boggling to the layperson (just think how small these things are) it's also mind-revealing.

Director responsible for Apple's awful âGenius' ads quits agency
. Apple's (AAPL) success is attributable to a number of things, and the $1 billion the company spends annually promoting its wares certainly plays a significant role. Its most recent round of Mac commercials was universally panned, however, with one widely respected industry executive going as far as to say the public's “gagging response” to the ads was well deserved. The ads were pulled after their first week on air during the Olympics and now Advertising Age reports that Scott Trattner, the executive creative director behind the commercials, has left his job at TBWA/Media Arts Lab and moved to a new agency.

World of Warcraft Remote service is now free to use
World of Warcraft is a game that can be played in many different ways - some play it for the more social aspects of the game, such as meeting new friends, joining a guild and just socializing while playing casually. Then you have those who raid hardcore every night of the week, then you have those who participate in the Arenas for PVP and then you have the auctioneer who spends most of their time in the auction house buying and selling. While you can't raid or participate in Arena via your mobile phone, what you can do is chat with guildies and check up on your Auction House purchases and sales via the World of Warcraft Remote app.

Samsung Galaxy Note discontinued by T-Mobile?
T-Mobile may have canceled the Samsung Galaxy Note that it just launched a couple of weeks ago. And without an official word on the matter. Apparently, remaining stock will be sold by TMo and its partners, but no new units are being ordered. The End-Of-Life (EOL) date is November 1. That though remains subject to change, since the magenta carrier could deplete its inventory sooner.
The Galaxy Note has disappeared from T-Mobile's website, and it appears as backordered at third-party retailers.

LG Singapore confirms ICS for Optimus 2X, Black, 3D, LTE, Prada
The last few weeks must have been really confusing for the LG Optimus owners around the globe. The company's 2011 lineup was first promised ICS updates but then those were delayed, denied, faked and for a brief moment it appeared that the saga will only have a happy ending for the 2X. Today, however LG Singapore stepped in and confirmed that things aren't as bad as they might have appeared. According to its Facebook post, ICS will land on the Optimus 2X, Optimus Black, Optimus 3D, Prada and Optimus LTE "in due time". This is the first time we hear about ICS for the Prada, Optimus 3D and LTE.

Heat resisting camouflage face paint
Most soldiers who fight on the battlefield wear some sort of face paint for camouflage purposes, and these tend to comprise of oil and wax, which will actually melt when exposed to intense heat. As we all know, the battlefield is not a place for the faint hearted, where it comes with its fair share of bombs and artillery which deliver intense heat and all round destruction. US scientists have managed to come up with a new kind of camouflage skin paint that has been touted to be able to withstand intense heat.

Pentax intros X-5 superzoom camera with 26x lens, tiltable LCD
We'd been worrying that Pentax would be left out of the flurry of new cameras in the run-up to Photokina. With the new X-5, there's reason to relax. The new shooter sits at the higher end of the by-the-numbers superzoom crowd, centering most of its energy on a 26x, 22-580mm equivalent lens as well as a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor that should keep the resulting 16-megapixel photos and 1080p videos relatively clean.

GameStreams tracker says League of Legends is the king of streaming
It's been pretty clear for a while that two games are clashing for the eSports community's top spot: StarCraft II and League of Legends. While contenders like Dota 2 are on the rise, no one has yet dislodged either of these two titans from their ongoing struggle. GameStreams.com, which tracks data from TwitchTV, Livestream, Ustream, and reGame, says that, at least in terms of online streaming viewership, League of Legends is dominating. "League of Legends has been the most broadcasted and watched game since we started tracking what game a channel was broadcasting in September 2011," GameStreams co-founder Mark Carter told Forbes.

ZTE-made Concord arrives at T-Mobile and Walmart, caters to the starter crowd at $100 contract-free
T-Mobile wants to offer as much of a lure to smartphone newcomers as to power users who might spring for its truly unlimited data, and the ZTE Concord might just be the right kind of bait. The truly 2010-vintage Android 2.3, 3.5-inch screen and 2-megapixel camera won't get anyone's pulse racing, but a $100 contract-free price is hard to ignore - even for the sort who'd otherwise be looking for a just-does-calls flip phone. Accordingly, the carrier plans to put the Concord in front of audiences that would rarely care to set foot in a dedicated cellphone store.

Microsoft wants to patent 'life streaming,' turn your whole life into Jersey Shore
Imagine a reality TV show that's starring you, recorded by you and directed by Microsoft. That's the principle behind its most recently disclosed patent application, dreaming up a method to transmit data from a "life recorder" to a target device for safe keeping. The company pictures you using your smartphone (or other device - just a shame the ideal one is Google's) to document your life, before it automatically catalogs, tags and uploads it to elsewhere for friends and family to enjoy.

Archos 101 XS Review
We were glad to see that the Archos 101 XS did live up to our expectations of being thing and affordable and was pretty much exactly how it looked in the video presentation I saw during the press conference held by Archos' CEO Paris, France (March 2012). For $399, users get an elegant, thin & light tablet with a detachable keyboard dock that doubles as a tough protective cover named Coverboard by Archos.Compared to its counterpart the Asus Transformer Pad TF300 which is more expensive (with the dock), the Archos 101 XS is lighter and noticeably thinner.

Xiaomi Phone 1S ships August 23rd with avalanche of backorders
You know you're doing well when even your warmed-up, older smartphone is triggering queues before it's on sale. Xiaomi has just promised that the Phone 1S will reach the market on August 23rd, but with 200,000 units to share - a slight shortfall when there are 1.3 million reserved phones. The company hasn't said how quickly it will catch up to the backlog for its revived Android flagship. We hope it's soon; it wouldn't do to have customers still waiting for the 1S by the time the Phone 2 rolls around in October, after all.

Samsung Galaxy Metrix 4G hits US Cellular this Friday for $180
There are plenty of (terribly named) stars in Samsung's Galaxy, but despite the overcrowding, its stateside constellation's showing no signs of slowing. Joining US Cellular's lineup as early as this Friday, the Metrix 4G packs a mix of yesteryear's specs for a budget LTE alternative to the GS III. The 4-inch handset, outfitted with the OEM's preferred Super AMOLED display tech, runs the incredibly stale Android 2.3 Gingerbread atop a single-core 1GHz processor and packs a dual 1.3-megapixel front facing / 5-megapixel rear camera setup into a slide-out QWERTY form factor.

Bing integrates Quora to social sidebar
Microsoft has just announced that the Bing website is now integrating Quora in the social side bar. The idea -says Bing- is that the Microsoft search engine not only want to show pertinent search results, but also who provides relevant answers. Although there are relevant answers elsewhere (forums, Q&A sites…), this is a potentially huge win for Quora, where most users log-in via Facebook with their real identity. U.S based users should start seeing Quora contributors in the sidebar, today.

Sennheiser boasts anti-counterfeit efforts, unveils new authentication technologies
You know Sennheiser's pissed when it holds a press conference just to talk about its anti-counterfeit efforts. In Guangzhou yesterday, the German audio company brought along two executives to debut its new authentication technologies on its retail packaging: a shiny Tesa PrioSpot authenticity label plus a "fool-proof" online look-up system. For the former, President of Corporate Services Volker Batels claims it's treated as securely as one would with cash money, in the sense that it has many visible and invisible features.

Why Microsoft deserves credit for Windows 8 innovations, even if people end up hating them
. There's no shortage of people criticizing Microsoft (MSFT) over the decisions it has made with Windows 8Â and its Surface tablet, from analysts to OEMs to game developers. And to be fair, I think a good deal of the criticism has merit: the switch from the standard desktop UI to the UI Formerly Known as Metro might indeed be too jarring for many users - the UI may be great for tablets, but it seems to be a complete debacle as a desktop UI. Microsoft might have to do some serious kiss-and-make-up with disgruntled OEMs as well if its Surface tablet doesn't create an instant market for Windows tablets.

Nikon Coolpix S800c hands-on: a closer look at the Android camera (video)
It was only hours ago when Nikon officially unveiled the Coolpix S800c, but we've already laid our hands on this eccentric device. As you've probably already heard, the main selling point here is that said "smart camera" is powered by a slick (and near-vanilla) Android 2.3.3 with Google services, so with the built-in WiFi, you can upload your 16-megapixel images or 1080p videos straight to your various social networks or other cloud services. Or you can, if you're in the mood, just play Angry Birds on the S800c, but that 1,050mAh battery might not be ideal for prolonged entertainment.
